The year started as every other does; a suitcase of routine and dreams:  meet the teachers, cover school books, last minute back to school shopping, and an eagerness to take on the new year. My eagerness got the better of me; I enrolled and applied for an Honours degree rather late in the first term, applied to stand on the SGB at my sons school, applied to stand as Class Representative for my daughters school, and accepted invitations to attend fashion industry events on behalf of my company Style Africa. My initial plan for 2018 was as follows Make time for…

We are too critical of ourselves when we look in the mirror. Why do we look in the mirror?  To see if we are pulled together properely? To see if the image before us is what we want to present to the world? What if we don’t like what we see?  How can we change how we see ourselves? Allow me to introduce you to the 3C’s; colour, confidence, comfort. The 3C’s that affect the way we see and feel about ourselves and the way in which we see and feel about the world around us.   CONFIDENCE Confidence is…

Individual style can be described as;  relating to, characteristic of, or meant for a single person or thing. separate or distinct, esp. from others of its kind; particular. characterized by unusual and striking qualities; distinctive. Individual style is pretty much the same as a designers style signature.  For example if I see the colour, structure, and use of materials as per the cape I’m wearing in the below photograph, I will know immediately that it is a Thabo Makheta design.  Try identifying designers whose style signature is easy to identify. Here are a few to test. What is the style…

Pick up the brushes and paint your life. Add as many colours to enhance every facet of your being. We can choose to live the mundane, routine, and expected life or experience the reality of our dreams, uncovering much about ourselves and our place in the world. May we never stop dreaming. I cannot be boxed I cannot succumb to a stereotype or an expectation that someone else has of me. My freedom to think, to be, to experience life through me has to be a valid need. I cannot feel trapped, thinking my fate lies in someone else’s hands….

I apologise for the quality of the photographs – these were developed from a spool decades ago, and then scanned by me from a printed photo.(if you don’t know what a spool is, then you’re way younger than me) As I approach a prime decade of my life, I wanted to share the first decade with you – where my life began – aged 0 to 10. Without placing the years in numerical order, I will capture each decade with a few stories that stood out most, or atleast those I’m willing to share. It was in the waqt of…

I remember the day clearly. My 3year old daughter jumping on top of my back, while I was studying for an upcoming exam.  My husband decides to take her for a walk to my sister in laws house, not too far from where we lived.   The phone call that followed 20mins later, had my heart pumping louder than ever ….   Sound of the cell phone rings – My phone is on its last two bars –  My husband out of breath able to let out only a few words   – come now – dog – attack -…

How are you feeling today?  My emotions tell me so much about myself and  how I view and interact with people around me.  Emotions control my performance, physical health, mental health and relationship with others. Understanding  how I fit in the world and what my role in it is, I’ve been able to learn how to deal with people and things around me much better.  It’s true, that most things come with experience, but you can also learn from others who’ve been through the mill and developed tools and mechanisms to cope with the daily grind, and more so, ourselves. …

I talk a lot, I sing a lot, I write a lot, I eat a lot, I love learning, I’m highly active and get involved in a number of projects…. possibly I suffer from ADD, OCD, OTT, ADHD . Hopefully one day all my hard work will come with a PHD (heehee – see what I did there ). Yes, Yes,  I’m also corny at times, humorous, playful, serious, chilled, chatty, graceful, motivational, a busy bee and I’m always looking on the bright side of every situation.
