As cooler days and the much needed rain has blessed us with its presence, the only cold I can’t seem to shrug off, is that of people who don’t acknowledge others.
Too many a times have I personally experienced a lack of THANK YOU’s and even subtle recognition for pointing people in the right direction or making introductions that would lead to someones growth and success.
It takes a while to recover from the knife wound, but all things heal in time and like a naive 16 year old, I’ll be back at it trying to sell the creative talent of our design industry to the world.
NEGATIVE X NEGATIVE = POSITIVE
As you know I’m not one to be bitter, hold grudges, or share my moments of displeasure. So instead this post is here to tell you that you shouldn’t STOP being the generous person you are, just because a handful of people did not take the time to acknowledge your helping hand.
At this point I’m reminded of the countless people who share their knowledge and skills with others and take risks because they believe in someone else’s brand. I’m especially reminded of those who genuinely acknowledge people who’ve contributed and believed in their work and potential.
WHAT’S THE PLAN
Although home is where the heart is, I’ve learnt that home doesn’t always appreciate what you do, so I’m extending my arm to an international arena and giving it a space in my home. This may all sound unclear to you right now but all will be revealed in time. I used to spend 80% of my energy on local and 20% on International. It didn’t pay the bills, it just kept making holes in my pocket, but it was something I yearned to achieve in creating spaces, connections and opportunities that may never have been possible before.
The Almighty has a greater plan for all of us. I firmly believe I am where I am meant to be at this present time. The universe is a lot bigger than my little corner of the world so instead of confining myself to local, I will ensure that my local brand has a place in everything I do. After all I AM PROUDLY SOUTH AFRICAN while also being a CHILD OF THE UNIVERSE.
I UNDERSTAND MY ROLE
I’m an instrument. An instrument that forms part of a greater orchestra. Without my instrument the rest of the orchestra will miss its beat. I also understand that I’m not the only instrument. You are an instrument too. We never know when our instrument plays lead, is backup or is there to keep the pace. We only know that our instrument is necessary and relevant to that piece of music for that particular audience at that specific time.
NO MATTER HOW MANY PEOPLE PEOPLE TRY TO CRUSH YOU, KEEP BEING YOU – SOMEONE WILL NOTICE AND ACKNOWLEDGE YOUR EFFORTS
